SUNNYVALE (26 Aug 03) -- Otto Lee, a Sunnyvale Planning Commissioner and patent attorney, has
qualified for the November ballot as a candidate for Sunnyvale City Council. Mr. Lee will run for Seat 5, an open
seat vacated by the incumbent, Hon. Manuel Valerio, due to term limits.
A Sunnyvale Planning Commissioner since 1998, Mr. Lee is the founder and managing partner of the Intellectual
Property Law Group located in San Jose. Earlier this year, he served as a lieutenant commander in the United States
Naval Reserve in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Mr. Lee has already earned the endorsements of 6 Sunnyvale city councilmembers, including Councilmember Fred Fowler.
"Otto has proven his commitment to Sunnyvale by his years of service on the Planning Commission," Councilmember
Fowler said. "His dedication to Sunnyvale and his leadership experience show that he is the responsible choice for
city council."
As a candidate for Sunnyvale City Council, Mr. Lee believes in the ability of the community and government to work
together for common goals. "I support balanced growth--weighing the needs of Sunnyvale residents and businesses," he
said. A graduate of Leadership Sunnyvale and a speaker of Spanish and Chinese, Mr. Lee will use his skills and
experience to build consensus in the city.
A long-time Sunnyvale resident, Mr. Lee also believes that Sunnyvale can be a vibrant and diverse city that still
honors its history. He will work to protect quality city services and to promote a healthy local economy. When
Sunnyvale faces important issues, Mr. Lee will listen to the community. "I pledge to listen to the concerns of
Sunnyvale residents before making decisions," he said.
Mr. Lee's list of endorsements continues to grow. In addition to Councilmembers Fowler and Valerio, these
endorsements include Sunnyvale Councilmembers Pat Vorreiter and John Howe; Sunnyvale Mayor Julia Miller; Former Sunnyvale Mayors Pat Castillo, Robin Parker, and Jim Roberts;
California State Assemblymembers Rebecca Cohn, Manny Diaz, and Joe Simitian; Former Assemblymembers Elaine Alquist
and Ted Lempert; California State Controller Steve Westly; and, Congressman Mike Honda.
Mr. Lee is eager to continue his service to the people of Sunnyvale. "I look forward to serving all of Sunnyvale to
